Caller ID on Call Waiting displays the number (and optionally the name) of an incoming caller when the user is already on the phone. Because it indicates visually that a new call has arrived, it serves as a supplement to Call Waiting. This is a useful phone system feature for people with sufficient hearing loss that the usual Call Waiting tone is inaudible.
